GMRS/FRS Radio Communications Program

You are invited to learn more, get started, or get advice at one of the informal monthly sessions scheduled at the Middletown Public Library, the second Tuesday of each month 6PM-730PM, starting October 8th.  We’ll help you navigate the FCC’s licensing process, explain radio options, and help you get the most out of your license and radio.

On Aquidneck Island, severe weather can cause prolonged power and internet outages, leaving families without a lifeline to emergency services and loved ones. (Yes, even cell towers can get damaged and can run out of generator power). Affordable General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) UHF handheld radios offer a reliable backup communication alternative, ensuring your local family stays connected and safe when traditional systems fail.

  • You can now get more information on this Aquidneck Island project at our evolving web site:    https:/www.gen4ai.org
  • We’re also happy to field your questions via email — GMRS@W1SYE.org
